I do understand disappointment if the show is Scarlet Witch & Vision and not just Scarlet Witch, but this isn’t about that (although I’d point out that Disney never officially announced a Scarlet Witch-specific show so it’s not like anything was taken away). This is for those who feel that, even if the show does star Wanda as the main character, it somehow is not about her if there’s a romance in it.

I might understand if only female superheroes had romances. But that’s not even close to being accurate.

Here let me just point out that every single MCU franchise starring a single character has romance as a major element at least starting out (save perhaps Ant-Man). This includes the TV series.

But for some reason, I’ve only seen people truly complain about the idea of a romance being important there is a female lead: Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Jessica Jones, and here Scarlet Witch. Despite the fact all the male characters have romances as major parts of their story.

So, why is a woman immediately less important than the man she romances in her own story?

Is he not the oft-maligned “love interest” role? Does he not exist as a way to develop our main character? Is he not only there to be with a woman? No one questions that Tony is the main character of the Iron Man franchise. No one thinks the Thor movies were made so he could romance Jane Foster.

This attitude that women are solely defined by the men in their lives arises in part because we have this attitude that only men are capable of defining. I reject this. If a Scarlet Witch series has Vision as a main role, it’s still her story.

scarletxvision:

Hate hate hate hate…

I don’t usually get involved in these kinds of things but something is really starting to irritate me. Where are all of these hate blogs coming from?

I get that some people don’t like Vision, don’t like Wanda or don’t like both, and that’s fine, I’m not saying you’re not allowed to have your own opinion, but what I don’t get is when people hate them so much, they then feel the need to make an actual blog about that haterid to post things that are full of hate.

And what happens then is their tags, the #ant*sc*rl*tv*s*on or whatever their using, show up in the #scarletvision tags. Now I’m not claiming these tags only for certain people’s use, that’s not right, what I’m saying is, it does bother me when I see posts about vision being called a useless toaster or saying that Wanda should have been left on the RAFT when I’ve gone to a tag to look for nice, positive posts about my OTP. And yeah, they are my OTP, even if some people apparently see them as “toxic” or whatever, but that’s a discussion for another day. They seem to overlook the fact that, yes, they can have their opinion, but in turn, so can we.

Look, what I’m saying is, of course you’re allowed to not like something, even hate something, but I don’t know why some people then feel the need to make an actual blog about it so they can spread their hate when this world is already filled with enough of it. If you don’t like something, that’s fine, but keep it to yourself. What’s the saying, “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” I don’t want to call anyone out in particular cause I’m not looking to start any fights, I just wanted to voice my opinion because it is something that bugs me, and if they can do it, then so can I.

Canon ships especially attract this kind of stuff, because it can’t be avoided either in the main body of work, or in the fact you’ll never see your own ship with one of the two. A lot of the time anti blogs are really ‘how much I hate that my own ship will never be canon’ blogs. Attracting nearly unhinged hate blogs is a sign your ship made it! Just remember to block them when you see them.

What do you think of the whole toaster thing?

The term is very tainted for me, but I understand why it’s not for many other fans. IIRC Vision #7, the flashback book in King’s series, was released in the same month as Civil War. It’s the only issue that’s solidly dealt with their relationship in modern history, and it’s a bite sized version of their relationship in some aspects. I do understand why a lot of people think of that issue when they think of comics Vision/Wanda.

But… when I think of the term ‘toaster’, I think of John Byrne. In his own words:

He felt very strongly Vision was not a person, and that something was wrong with Wanda for marrying him. John Byrne is the writer responsible for retconning the children as delusions, making Vision purely a robot and getting rid of his emotions, turning Simon a homewrecking chode and Wanda a mad hysterical woman.

The term, to me, is forever tied to those events. Besides that, Vision has been referred to as various household appliances as a way to insult him and the notion of his personhood for decades, including in-universe:

Even within the context of that single issue the last time Wanda uses it in Vision #7 is to hurl it at him as in insult in her darkest moment. King put the term in there so he could ultimately have Wanda use it against him.

So I can’t think of it as cute and I don’t generally reblog stuff that uses it in as a term of affection… but I also don’t have a problem with that stuff existing. The fans who use it aren’t doing it maliciously, they’re just seeing something kind of unique about their OTP to latch onto. It becomes part of the fandom vocabulary. I definitely get it, and those little details are some of my favorite parts in any couple fandom I’m a part of.

Although if I may suggest an alternative… if you’re looking for another term for comics Wanda to call comics Vision, my personal favorite is “dark eyes”.
